Resting: Your Belly Will Thank You

I know you have heard it before in one form or another, resting is always perscribed as being good for your health.  We hear for example how having a good night sleep can make us more productive and prolong our life.  But have you thought of how it can directly affect your digestion?

There is a lot to be said for this time spent dormant in our day.  We underestimate its value I think in large part because sleeping is usually associated with the act of  “being” not “doing” which seems to gain more importance over our lives.  The amazing thing about taking time to close our eyes is how much is actually going on while we lay in our slumber, how much it really is a productive time out of our day.

While we sleep our body is processing much of our days mental and physical experiences.  Digestion is happening and how it happens has a lot to do with how we wake up feeling.  Ever had a full belly when you go to bed and wake up feeling full and therefore tired?  I have.  I wake up bloated, I’m more fatigued and my belly feels uncomfortable.

Learning about the importance of eating early in my evening has made a great difference in my physical and mental well-being. I usually try to eat my last meal by 7pm.  The intention is that if I go to bed around 10pm I have given myself a good three hours of pre-digestion before I hit the pillow.  I know the time spent sleeping is when my body is doing it’s repairs so I want to create as much of a settled enviroment within to give it the opportunity to do so.

I also find that my bowel movements become more regular and comfortable when I approach my sleep time with this in mind.  As soon as I feel discomfort in my belly, this is the first remedy that I turn towards to relieve my symptoms.

During the day I find time to be at rest.  This doesnt necessarily entail a full sleep, it could be a cat nap, an hour or half hour, or I just  lay down put my feet up. My body rewards me with feeling more balanced, my belly loosens up, I get a dose of energy and my mind is clearer.

So if you ever find yourself dismissing time for rest or cutting down on your hours of shut eye, consider its value and its purpose, it could be the best moments out of your day you dedicated towards your health!

What about you, how does rest affect your health?

16a1403535fI want to show my appreciation to the iretwr for rescuing me from this setting. Because of looking out through the world-wide-web and getting basics which were not beneficial, I thought my life was gone. Living devoid of the solutions to the difficulties you’ve fixed by means of your good short article is a serious case, as well as those which could have in a wrong way affected my entire career if I hadn’t noticed your blog. Your own knowledge and kindness in playing with almost everything was priceless. I don’t know what I would’ve done if I had not come upon such a stuff like this. I can now look forward to my future. Thanks very much for this expert and sensible help. I won’t think twice to propose your blog to any individual who should have recommendations on this matter. 195
