I just returned from what was a most beautiful trip to our neighboring Tuscon. This little gem of a city is bursting with things to do and wonderful places to nestle yourself in some good eats and fun. The pace is laid back, people are friendly and patiently say their words with calm and genuine intention.
My boyfriend and I traveled there this weekend to celebrate my birthday and found ourselves returning to restaurant that we had visited earlier in the Fall when I was unwell. The restaurant is called La Cocina http://lacocinatucson.com/ (note their website is fairly new-still being tweaked). Nestled in what is called the Old Town Artisan it is a beautifully spot to come for a romantic dinner. Tables and chairs are arranged outdoors under a tree lit up with twinkling lights. Entertainment is set on a stage near by and the atmosphere is cozy and quaint. Now the icing on the cake is the food.  Served by wonderful staff, a dish to try is the quinoa and sauteed vegetables that I found delicate and scrumptious. This paired with an h’odeurve of a roasted artichoke and a salad makes for a delicious meal. The owner of the restaurant takes pride in her cooking and you can tell with each bite.
The other restaurant that had me singing was Lovin’ Spoonfuls  http://lovinspoonfuls.com/index.htm which is an all vegetarian restaurant. You name it she’s got it! I was delighted at the choices on the menu of which many are vegan. There is also a gluten-free menu available or pairing that you can take from the menu and add to your entree. The atmosphere is casual and one of welcome. I particularly liked the availability of literature to read while you eat, Vegetarian Times, books on vegetables, pamphlets and newspapers regarding vegetarian lifestyle. The owner of the spot is also a wonderful smile of a lady. I enjoyed a soup of curry carrot soup that was amazing, absolutely one of the best I’ve ever had. I could have nestled myself there for hours.
The final spot we ventured with our bellies to was a place to pick up our last minute road bites.  The place is called the Food Conspiracy Co-op http://www.foodconspiracy.coop/about/ and it is a longstanding co-op of the neighborhood with a conscious ethic on providing quality groceries and produce while focusing on making it accessible and local. Wonderful assortments of veggies can be found along with bulk nuts and grains and some prepared foods that you can take along to enjoy some of the local flavors you may have missed along the way.
So enjoy your weekend escape to Tuscon and browse these galleries of goodies to feast your belly with a delightful meal or two, or three… What are your local food spots to visit?
