Books for the soul

A girlfriend of mine recently wrote back asking about books that I might recommend for nourishing your soul.  She didn’t put it in quite those terms, but she listed Deepak Chopra and I can’t think of any other way of describing his inspirational teachings.  So I decided to take a look in my own library of books that I have chosen to shelp around with me through the years as I have moved from here to there, from this phase of my life to that.  After all, if they have kept up with me and my numerous life changes, they must be something worth exploring so I hope they will at least to peak your curiosity.  I decide to focus on 3 books including one by Deepak Chopra as per her request, and give you a quote from each which will hopefully give you a taste for what they are about.

1. Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self by Sarah Ban Breathnach

I mean first of all the lady has the word Breath in her name, need I say more. This book is a great book and workbook because each short chapter is filled with  some great thought provoking questions, quote or ah-ha that left me with pen and paper at hand writing about how to do just as the title suggests.  It’s about how to as a woman look at yourself, those dreams you never fulfilled or the parts of yourself you have yet to discover with spiritual grace.  Here is a quote: “ When the heart is in danger, her Authentic Self is simply following its prime directive: get rid of the blockages, get the heart open to receive and send out love, get the heart centered and in alignment with what’s truly important, and then get on with it.  Real life” (pg 289).

2. Anatomy of The Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing by Caroline Myss, Ph.D.

I have been following Caroline Myss a medical intuitive for so long, her lectures, website and books on tape have been wonderful for me.  This book looks at the connection between mind, body and the spirit and how healing is founded on all these principles.  Here is a quote: “Becoming detached and conscious means getting certain perceptions from our minds into our bodies.  It means merging with perceptions that are truth and living them so that their power becomes one and the same as our own energy” (pg 241).

3. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams by Deepak Chopra

This book is a slim easy to read book with simple principles that apply to every aspect of ones life building on the idea that there is a constant flow of life’s wealth ie. health, family, abundance however you define success or fulfillment that is in constant circulation and what is central to this flow is our own spiritual connectivity  Here is a quote:  “The source of all creation is divinity (or the spirit); the process of creation is divinity in motion (or the mind); and the object of divinity is the physical universe (which includes the physical body)” (pg 6 of introduction).

So there you have it, some good books for the soul, pair them with a nice soup and a cozy spot on the couch and your brewing some quality time for you.  Enjoy and let me know what’s in your library.
