November Published Article:Navigating the Real World

I hope this new blog post finds everyone in a comfortable and safe place wherever you may be.  Thanks again for your patience while my family and I recovered from the storm.

I am happy to say that I came home to a shipment of my newest publication “Navigating the Real World” in the Hippocrates Health Magazine Survival is Ours, Volume 32 Issue 4.  You can find a link to the article here  on page 37.

In this article I share my own tips and suggestions for how to translate the health related material you receive from institutes such as Hippocrates and apply it to your life.  The suggestions that I make are applicable to anyone who has sought healing through retreat centers, seminars and health practitioners and now face the challenge of adopting their practices to their everyday lives.  Three area I explore are ones physical space, community resources and the family.

Developing our physical spaces so that it can work to assist us in our healing is essential.  Our homes can act as a sanctuary for us when we provide it with the opportunities to do so.  This means assessing what aspects of our current living environment bring us peace or discomfort. What aspects of our surroundings serve to calm and center us?  How can we create more pathways to receive this energy within our home? What kinds of scents and aromas bring us in touch with ourselves?

Community resources are abundant for healthy tips and places to access your dietary needs. Restaurants have become an extension of our kitchens as they accommodate to dietary restrictions and infused their menu with palatable meals that are taste and healthy.  You may find that learning about one resource in your area leads you to another. Ask questions and share your needs with vendors at local markets and health fairs are a good way to get to know what you can find in your local neighborhoods.

Striving to make your healing process be inclusive of your family is a good way to assure you will have the support needed for a lifetime.  When I speak of your family, that is anyone who is close to you that has been a part of your healing journey.  Finding ways to be inclusive of them and what you have learned, can be a challenge.  Taking the unfamiliar methodologies that you have now gained knowledge of and sharing it with them is best done with a slow introduction.  Find opportunities to infuse meals with your new food choices along side what they are accustomed to.  Also, take the opportunity to go beyond meal time to rejuvenate your relationships with shared walks and talks amongst common enjoyed places in your community.

Focusing on ways to incorporate your life with healthy choices is done gradually.  Be kind to yourselves and others in the process while making these changes can be a good place to start.

Share your own experiences with adopting your healthy lifestyle with us.
