Recently I had undergone a flare and I had to take a step back. I reminded myself of the serenity pray, “God grant me the courage to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the differenceâ€. What struck most when I read these words was the word “courageâ€. Courage is essential if we are to even begin the process of taking the time to ask ourselves where in this moment of my life I am and what is going on. Sometimes we can get caught up in the feeling as if what is happening to us is out of our control, not within our grasp on any level, and we end up detaching ourselves from the learning moment, the opportunity to be aware that is at our feet, ready for us to pick up and embrace.
Courage is what we need, courage to remind ourselves that yes, there are those things that we cannot change, and by accepting them we lay peace to our struggles. While, at the same time realizing that just by making that very point of realization a part of our core and internalizing it, we are making a great courageous act of change that with it will bring wisdom. I read recently that wisdom cannot come without experience. While we remain caught in the web of feeling powerless, we distance ourselves from the opportunity to experience the wisdom we have available to us.
Be courageous, reach down and choose this opportunity to become aware, open the windows and shut the doors to feeling powerless.
