The winter solstice has come to pass this weekend with one of its unique seasonal gifts for us to embrace: a time for quiet reflection. I recently attended a gathering in my community that offered me moments to sit with peace and reflect. Within the comfortable setting I drifted in and out of my minds thoughts; at times peaceful and other times racing in many directions.
I accepted all my thoughts with equal measure as best I could and found myself at the end of my time there, having left feeling calm and renewed with tranquility. One thing that became apparent in that space and time was the significance of what we all can share collectively as human beings; that we are generous by our very nature. We practice everyday the spirit of giving. When we can act being conscious of our generosity, we can enjoy life more fully and therefore more health.
We are able to give when we feel we have something to give. When we actively are in pursuit of what brings meaning to our lives we feel good. We feel good because we can act with conscious awareness of all the positive actions that reflect back to us that we are headed in a direction that brings meaning and purpose to our lives.
When we take this energy and apply it to being generous it further highlights this to us. We are acting with the conscious awareness of the best parts of our personality that we want to share with someone else. Take for example when we feel happy. When we are happy we want to share our being happy. We may be viewing a beautiful sunset and have a big smile come over our face, feeling the warmth and immediately think or act to invite someone else to enjoy it with us. We instinctively become generous because we feel in touch with ourselves and the moment.
When we are going through a hard time, feeling bad about ourselves, stressed, overwhelmed or physically unwell is usually when our generosity spirit diminishes. We don’t feel like we have anything to give because we are depleted. The desire to be generous is lost because we are out of touch with what makes us feel alive; being in touch with our best self.
We are generous by our very nature. We want to give, we want to feel good. When we take time to look at those parts of our personality that we like the most and deliberately act, talk, listen and think from this place; we can continue the generous spirit of the season throughout the year.
This week marks the celebration of the holidays for many people and with this we are often asked to give in more ways than we may typically find ourselves doing. Take this as an opportunity to reflect on yourself and applaud how many ways you give of yourself everyday. You are generous by your very nature. Encourage this healthy thought as this will naturally lead you to give enjoying it as a healthy action.
In health,
Safara
