I lost a friend this past week to cancer. We met while we were at the Hippocrates Health Institute. She was around my age, that is to say that we were amongst the few younger people there dealing with our health conditions.
I was drawn to her not just for this reason but for the unspoken obvious energy and light that surrounded her and told you, “I am a strong lady and I am full of life.â€Â I knew that our approach to our difficulties gave us similar perspectives on life, one of that we were alive, happy and so very grateful for this moment. They say that when a person is faced with a challenge that brings them closer to their mortality that we awake, awake to life. This is how I felt when I was with her, awaken to the present and very in tuned to the communication in my head, to those voices that are so important to be aware of as part of one’s healing process.
Our communication with ourselves is by far one of the most important means by which we can cultivate a healthy environment. Our thoughts can be one that led us to believe that we are forever trapped by our condition. Or, they can be the place where we envision ourselves as well and breathe life into our cells by reinforcing positive messages of health and wellness. Just as we change the channel on the television to programs that interest us and speak to us, our minds ask us to tune in to the conversations in our head and guide ourselves towards what we want to listen to. It is our choice.
