Traveling Just Got Healthier

I was delighted to read a New York Times article by Stephanie Rosenbloom in the Travel section of August 1st  edition about the new endeavours that airports and hotels are embarking on to make fitness and health a part of their environment.  In the article “Easing the Pain of Workouts On the Road” here the invitation to travelers to get their exercise and fitness needs met while traveling is being sent loud and clear by the hospitality industry.

Hotels like the Sheraton are even providing an all included “workout in a bag” which contains basic necessities for you to do yoga.  The “workout in a bag” includes a mat, foam rollers and even an instructional manual that you can use to follow along for a routine. You borrow the “workout in a bag” and its all a part of a fitness program that even allows you to continue with the instructions after you have left your stay there.

Another featured hotel was the Westin Hotel, which offers guest to similarly borrow workout clothes and equipment.  They have also expanded their hotels to include fitness rooms that feature more room for floor work and lighting that promotes good energy and well-being.

Airports are also making their way to creating comfortable and convenient spaces to workout.  Indianapolis International Airport has designated walking routes within the airport terminals that allow passengers to take walks for up to a quart of a mile in their ticketing areas.  For more information please see Indianapolisairport.com.

San Francisco International Airport  has gone above and beyond to welcome peaceful tranquility as part of the travelers experience.  They have transformed part of the airport into “Yoga Rooms” to allow people to come and enjoy quiet and meditative spaces for relaxation.  These “Yoga Rooms” come with mats and benches and are designed with tranquility in mind.  See more at FlySFO.com.
