As I sit here and write this blog, I look out on a beautiful setting one of pine, fern and other large trees I don’t know the name off. The sky is crisp blue and the air that comes in through my window fills my room pleasantly. I breathe in deeply and inhale as I close my eyes and feel a tranquil peace of mind.
This is the setting I came home to New York to, and from which I have confirmed is an environment that is concussive to my healing. Having lived in Arizona for two years where the air is dry, the temperatures extreme and the use of indoor space to cool you is used more often than not, I sought to find a more balanced environment for my body. I found it here in New York where my body, mind and spirit are getting a much needed dose of good energy from my surroundings.
Our bodies are permeable, susceptible to not only what we put in it, but the environments within which we expose ourselves. Our natural inclination is to gravitate towards spaces that give us the most comfort. When we are embarking on a journey of healing it helps to consider what environments we thrive in. We can choose our healing landscapes.
We might begin by asking ourselves where do we find ourselves most at peace? Are we someone who enjoys the touch of earth at our feet, dirt, dry air, red and orange tones to our landscapes of rugged mountains and valleys and strong heat? Do we need to be close to water, see it and hear it or just have the opportunity to visualize it on occasion? Do we find peace amongst the quiet of nature, fields of trees, or wild forests?
These questions can help us to explore the environmental conditions for which our character can find a resting place for our minds and foster a healthy sense of well being. This can lead us to heal at a more even pace, and create optimal opportunities for us to utilize our spaces to rejuvenate and replenish ourselves. Keeping this in mind we can make better choices for ourselves when considering our living habitats and make the changes we can to improve our spaces to our needs.
Consider the environment within which you live and ask yourself if it is indeed encouraging you towards better health. What improvements could you make to encourage healing?
