Hello Fellow Health Enthusiast,
Then again who among us are not- heck we all want good health.
We are well into our new season of summer with the temperatures finding us feeling the warmth of the season in full. I hope you have found yourself with a good balance of fun and relaxation in your day.
This recent break from blogging was taken in part of give myself time to BE. I have been traveling a lot for work and pleasure. Though I have enjoyed the company of family and friends along my route the traveling has fatigued my body.
Traveling by plane especially can create undue stress on your digestive system. As we know when we fly the air that we are breathing is not “fresh” but recycled air which alters the micro-bacteria in your body. Add to this the cabin pressure and the hustle and bustle of maneuvering yourself through public and anyone of us finds ourselves dragging.
So what can you do?
Here are a few simple tips for summer traveling recoup.
1. Rest- It may sound totally logical but many of us do not tend to our sleep in the summer with the same attention we do in the winter. Our circadian rhythms have us a bit confused when the sun isn’t going down until well past 8pm so our tendency is to keep going. A nice way to wind down from the day while still being active is to spend some time outdoors while relaxing.
Here are a few ways I like: a nice evening stroll, sitting on your porch or at the park enjoying a talk with friends or listening to music while you prune a few plants. You might go to your library and relax in a comfortable chair while reading.
If you are in a city- perhaps you find your way to an early evening yoga class followed by a stroll in the park. You might grab a book and head to a cafe and nestle yourself in the quiet section. However you can begin that process for yourself is good.
2. Get back to basics- If you have been traveling and eating on the go there is nothing like coming home and cooking a nice meal. We are in the high season of farmers markets. From coast to coast here in America the number of markets that crop up around towns grows. I bet you could probably travel cross-country you could eat your way from market to a market within each state. Return to the table and cook the staples that make you feel good. Indulge in the freshest produce and treat yourself to a special new find.
3. Check-in with your regime– If you have been following a regime of supplements take the time now to see what you have and what may need to be alternated. It’s a new season, which may require your body to have support in areas you haven’t. There also may be supplements that are not as needed in high quantity. I for one find that my time outdoors in the sun is ample for my Vitamin D and not as necessary as a daily supplement.
However you come back into your rhythm do it with loving kindness. Your body wants nothing more than to feel “at home” again.
Remember, blog posts are every 2 weeks on Sundays. Hope you enjoy the return. Next one- July 24th.
In health,
