Hope you are finding yourself enjoying this Sunday, May 8th- here we celebrate Mother’s Day.
In honor of such I have dedicated this blog to 3 qualities to a mother’s love that can help to support healing at whatever stage we are in our health. Regardless of how we connect with the figures of mothers (anyone you deem as such), the qualities to a mother’s love are adaptable to our lives. When we take these positive qualities to a mother’s love with us as a mindful practice of self-awareness we encourage our healthy self to emerge.
Lets look at 3 qualities of a Mother’s Love:
Nurturing: When we are young, the nurturing we receive from our mothers allows us to feel safe and comforted. When we become adults we adopt the role of nurturing others in our relationships. While it is important to do so for others, maintaining this quality of being nurtured for oneself can be a challenge as we balance what we give and take in our personal relationships. Mother nature can help support and nurture us throughout our lives at any phase of our growth.
The environment that we choose to live in can have a direct effect on our state of health and be a source of strength and vitality for our well-being. This is particularly true for those managing digestive conditions. Seeking places that offer opportunities for us to be in quiet and tranquil environments allows us to cultivate a sense of peace within. Our digestive system is directly affected by the level of stressors we accumulate in our day. By supporting our bodies with spaces that allow us to “digest” from the busy scheduled lives we lead, we embrace the nurturing qualities of Mother Nature at its best.
Modeling Self-Care: Fine tuning our self-care into a regime we learn to priorities by the lessons we take from observing and being instructed by our mothers (caretakers- but for today focus is on mothers). Self-care as an adult becomes about the act of attending to your body, mind and spirit through your own voice. It requires tuning into yourself and taking responsibility for tending to your needs. This can be difficult at times, especially when we feel overwhelmed or want to engage in many opportunities at once. Taking time to “tune in”, pause, reflect and ask what is best for you in an open and honest manner allows one to take the necessary steps to ensure you have cared for yourself appropriately.
Belonging: Mothers are known in the “ideal” sense to provide a sense of belonging. The feeling that no matter where you are or go there is someone on this Earth, some place you can return to for a sense of belonging. Belonging is essential to defining yourself as it serves as an anchor and compass for making choices that warrant your best self. Making choices that speak to your best self is a healthy approach to living. If you have lacked this in your relationships with your “mother” cultivate this sense of belonging with others and in environments that provide the opportunity to build this into your life. The world is a very big place and finding a place, a community where you enjoy the feeling of belonging can help cultivate healthy patterns to living.
So seek to build these qualities into your own health practices within supportive environments and find people whether they be mothers or others in your life that support you in this process. Cultivate this practice and watch yourself flourish.
In health,
