Tuning into Your Own Rhythm

With the pace of life outside our front doors moving as fast as it does, it seems that people today are living their daily lives as if they are on  the treadmill. “I can’t catch up”, “It’s not possible”, “I don’t know how I am going to balance it all.”

These are common phrases that I have heard repeated by individuals in different circumstances this past week.  Each was referring to how challenged they have been feeling to meet obligations in their life.   The rhythm of their lives and that of their inner world are not in sync.

We each have a natural rhythm by which we function.  Its the pace by which we can say at the end of the day, “this was such a nice day, I really enjoyed this.”  We are able to experience such gratification when we are participating in our life in a way that allows us to stop and be aware of ourselves.

We may be working, taking care of our families, attending to business matters or any number of “doings” that are required of us; but in this process we see that we are meeting these commitments at the same time that we have satisfied our daily barometer for self-fulfillment.

Self-fulfillment is that which allows us to feel in touch with who we are.  It is that part of being alive that allows us to find pleasure in discovering and learning more about ourselves while we engage in life as a process.  It is the part of our intuitive self that must be met in order for us to feel happy.

Living daily aware of what in our day can add up to meeting our “self-fulfillment”quota naturally encourages us to stay in rhythm with ourselves and feel balanced.

When one is unwell, it is this “rhythm” to our life that we miss so much as we feel out of sync as our lives are put on hold.  As we make our way through the healing process and transform our challenges into a journey to deepen our understanding of ourselves, what we are actualizing in this process is a reunion with this “rhythm.”  We know intuitively that this will lead us to being able to engage in a life with purpose.

We honor ourselves when we tune into our own “rhythm” and prioritize it as we do all other obligations in our life.  We know that our health and happiness depend on it and will deepen from us having done so.
