A Healthy Life:Tune to Nature

Happy Spring to you all near and far.  It brings me great pleasure to write these words to you as we find ourselves with the beginnings of Spring upon us.  I know for many of us, we look outside our windows and the picture makes us say, “Really is this spring?”

We close the shades at a loss for what we dreamed was awaiting us; sun streaming in, the buds beginnings on the trees and the sound of the birds calling us outside.

Fret not my dear ones, though the landscape may not be ideal to your images of this season’s beginnings…it has begun.

If we take a step to reflect on this year’s “unusual” season change we will find that we can affirm many of the principles for a healthy life.

Accept and Let Go of Expectations:

Many of us have a difficult time accepting and letting go of the expectations we hold for ourselves.  We expect that we will function and perform at the same rate and speed every day.  We juice up on coffee and a piece of this or that in our mouth and we set out for the day.  Our routine in place we set out to accomplish our tasks.

When we find ourselves falling short of meeting all the goals we set out for ourselves we turn inward and question our abilities.  If we can take a more compassionate approach, we may find that our bodies and mind respond more gracefully.  We can call on our inner senses and seek out what we may need.

Perhaps a nap, a short walk, a call to a friend or loved one, a stretch or a brisk walk outside with the cooling air between our ears will help us to rebalance.  It can be as simple as that.

 Giving Space for Change:

Once we let go of the expectations we carry we can allow space for change.  We can accept that we may need to direct our efforts in a new direction.  Perhaps the same way of doing something day after day just may need a tune up.  Relationships we have may need revisiting.

We may want to take time and process a recent conversation that has left us with upset and ask how we can refocus the conversation in a direction that can bring more contentment to one another.  Maybe there is some area of our life that has left us wanting more, perhaps this is the time to get busy on it.

We can start small and make room for this in our daily routines with offering ourselves a new route to work or a variation on how we begin our morning; maybe a few minutes of meditation upon wake can be a nice addition.

May you find yourself adding to this list with your own principles to a healthy life.  Open the door to spring by opening the door to yourself.  Let the stillness and subtle buds that are germinating under the cold earth allow themselves to bloom in their own space and time. Give them the chance to come about as they will this year, in their own dance.  Take a page from nature’s dance from winter to spring and find your own rhythm.

As you do maybe you will find yourself in a much more receptive place for spring to really come about.

In health,

Safara
