Being Gentle With Yourself

When we are hurting and in pain with our health condition we really want relief to come as soon as possible.  It is perfectly natural, we seek the quickest way to our finding our way out of what makes our bodies uncomfortable.

To encourage ourselves to move in this direction, at times we put pressure on ourselves often unconsciously to make this happen.  When we do, we upset our bodies own process to find its own way, in its own time to heal and create the opportunity to be free of our pain.

Our bodies work around the clock to function at an optimal level.  The steps we take mentally and physically to encourage this process is important.

Mentally

Being kind to yourself with your thought-filled actions is the first step in this direction.  The words we use when we describe our condition registers with every cell in our body.  Our bodies take clues from us as to how we visualize ourselves and act accordingly.

If we remark repetitively in conversations with ourselves and others about our upset with our bodies; speaking in negative terms, we stall the momentum of our bodies.  We disrupt our healing and further perpetuate a cycle that leaves us entrapped in our ill state.

What we need is to encourage our bodies every day.  We need to tell ourselves that we are proud of the efforts made to help us and end the day with gratitude.  When we have a moment to ourselves in  meditation or spiritual centering, we can take a moment to say “thank you”, “thank you for the energy I had today, thank you for being strong, thank you for taking the best care of me you can.”  When we find positive affirmation as part of our regular routine we will witness our bodies responding.

Physically

Gentle touch and physical care of our bodies is important for everyone to consider.  We need touch.  We need to be given the lovingness that comes when we take in the physical tenderness of another person.  This can be as simple as a hug.  If we can treat ourselves to a massage or a facial, we can reap the benefits of the physical release that comes with such applications as well as the knowledge that we have prioritized our bodies wellness.

Being your own physical comfort is equally important.  When we take our bodies into our hands we let ourselves feel taken care of by the one person we need it from the most.  An application that I have practiced that has boosted my circulation as I attend to my body kindly is through body rubs.  Beginning with your arms and working through your upper torso down to your feet with a hot wash cloth.  It can be done in the beginning of the day or end.

However you choose to affirm yourself in the positive and assist your body towards wellness, act from a mental and physical place of love.  Add to your daily habits of health and give yourself the support you so need.

In health,

Safara
