{"id":937,"date":"2013-08-04T09:00:51","date_gmt":"2013-08-04T13:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/?p=937"},"modified":"2013-08-03T20:54:24","modified_gmt":"2013-08-04T00:54:24","slug":"enhancing-your-iron-intake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/?p=937","title":{"rendered":"Enhancing Your Iron Intake With Food"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/iron-rich-foods.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-939\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/iron-rich-foods-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Getting ourselves a good dosage of all our vitamins and minerals is what we strive to do each day with what we eat.\u00a0 If we are aware of ourselves we find foods that allow us to be active and healthy.<\/p>\n<p>When we find\u00a0they are not enough we might begin to notice symptoms that clue us into the idea that\u00a0we might try to see where\u00a0we can\u00a0do better to get what we need to get ourselves back on track.<\/p>\n<p>If we find that we are feeling run down, dragging, lethargic and perhaps\u00a0having trouble focusing our minds we might want to see if we are in need of more iron.\u00a0 A simple blood test can tell you for sure, and your physician may suggest taking an iron supplement.\u00a0\u00a0Look for iron supplements that have &#8220;chelate&#8221;, &#8220;ferrous&#8221; and &#8220;Vitamin C&#8221; on the label.\u00a0 However to\u00a0gain the\u00a0full benefits from iron\u00a0its good\u00a0that it be consumed through food for maximum absorption.<\/p>\n<p>In doing some research for my own purposes I have come up with a list of sources that particularly appeal to my tastes and cooking preferences.\u00a0 Here is a listing of some iron sources ranked from richest to poorest that have found their way to my table:<\/p>\n<p>Spinach<\/p>\n<p>Lima, navy, soy and kidney beans<\/p>\n<p>Parsley<\/p>\n<p>Sauerkraut<\/p>\n<p>Split, black-eyed and green peas<\/p>\n<p>Baked potato<\/p>\n<p>Sardines<\/p>\n<p>Tofu<\/p>\n<p>Broccoli<\/p>\n<p>Bok Choy<\/p>\n<p>Butternut Squash<\/p>\n<p>Oatmeal<\/p>\n<p>Mushroom<\/p>\n<p>Seaweed<\/p>\n<p>Summer Squash<\/p>\n<p>Cauliflower<\/p>\n<p>Cabbage<\/p>\n<p>Sole\/Flounder<\/p>\n<p>Apple<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Factors that can enhance your iron consumption are Vitamin C, other acid sugars and MFP\u00a0factor.\u00a0 MFP\u00a0factor\u00a0is something\u00a0which is found in meat, poultry and fish.\u00a0 Eggs interestingly enough are poor sources; they are poor absorbers due to an inhibiting factor they contain.<\/p>\n<p>So if you find yourself needing an iron boost, refer to your fridge and see if these are in there.\u00a0 You might just want to hit the supermarket for a little iron enrichment!<\/p>\n<p>In health,<\/p>\n<p>Safara<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Getting ourselves a good dosage of all our vitamins and minerals is what we strive to do each day with [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[6],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/937"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=937"}],"version-history":[{"count":11,"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/937\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":948,"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/937\/revisions\/948"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=937"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=937"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/safaraf.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=937"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
