Accepting the Ups and Downs

<img loading="lazy" class="alignright who takes a step in the direction towards healing discovers the road is bumper than they expected. We find the path takes dips and turns we never feel we have prepared for. These dips and turns can be unsettling and disturb our sense of well being.

Perhaps we are suffering with reoccurring symptoms for a condition we have or we have discovered new ailments that we have to deal with. Either way we feel as if we are unable to manage our health as easily as we had been just a moment before. In those moments we feel like we have “taken a fall,” and feel despair as we confront our bumps and bruises.

When we are met with these painful moments face down on the ground where we have fallen we are at first dismayed. We may even ask ourselves, “I was doing so well, what did I do wrong?”

This is natural to do to ourselves. We want to believe it is as simple as following a diet plan, meditating and practicing self awareness. When we have dedicated ourselves over and over again to these healthy ways we are fatigued with our anger over not getting it right. We want to be in complete control of our health.

But the truth is we are not.

To dedicate yourself to living a healthy lifestyle requires being kind and gentle to yourself in these moments. A fundamental principle of healing is that it is just as important to consider the messages we tell ourselves as they are imprinted in our physical self.

So how can we reassure ourselves?

Being open and honest if we should feel angry or saddened by our fall is an important first step. Taking time to express our feelings and reflect gives way to picking ourselves up again. We can process through writing, drawing, painting, or just taking a nice walk and allowing our thoughts to be. Sharing with loved ones that can listen without telling you what to do is another way.

All of what takes place, bumps and all, is a part of the healing journey.

Stop and remind ourselves of what a journey of healing is- A PROCESS. It is one that lies on a continuum of our life’s path, with no beginning and end point. All we can do is to try our best to be as aware of ourselves as we can in a moment of time and hold onto our faith with every step and trip of the way of our healing journey.

So when you find yourself feeling as if you have derailed off your healing path because you are dealing with your health in unexpected ways, turn to yourself and give yourself some reassurance knowing you have done the very best you can.

In health,

Safara

Anyone who takes a step in the direction towards healing discovers the road is bumper than
