My prayers for their safety that they have shelter, the necessary help and are taken care of are with everyone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What I offer here is to warming cooking meals that are simple requiring few ingredients. A quick breakfast cereals that can start the day.\u00a0 A soup.\u00a0 I end with a poem by Mary Oliver.\u00a0 Comfort foods and poetry are some of my staples to help me through the winter.\u00a0 Our dear Mary Oliver passed away January 17, 2019.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here is an interview from 2015 from <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"On Being Mary Oliver\" href=\"https:\/\/onbeing.org\/programs\/mary-oliver-listening-to-the-world-jan2019\/\">On Being <\/a>where you can hear her voice.\u00a0 She has long been a lover of nature and life sharing the simplicity and beauty of what she observed in a day takes you right to her front door.\u00a0 She asks us to &#8220;listen to the world.&#8221;\u00a0 She is helpful, she listens and can be a friend in her poetry.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I hope what I share will bring some comfort and ease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. Recipes from <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Self-healing Cookbook \" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Self-Healing-Cookbook-Whole-Foods-Balance\/dp\/0945668147\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1549199986&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=The+Self-Healing+Cookbook+by+Kristina+Turner\">The Self-Healing Cookbook by Kristina Turner<\/a>&#8211; Here is a millet or rice porridge recipe. Basic recipe of millet is to take 1\/2 cup of millet to 2.5 of water with salt.\u00a0 Once boils then turn to low and boil for 20 minutes.\u00a0 Can add some tamari or make it sweet with some rice syrup, molasses.\u00a0 Adding some hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds or other nuts you enjoy are good as the millet is nutty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Millet or Rice Porridge- <\/strong>Dice radish, daikon or turnip. Slice Greens. Boil water. Add roots. Simmer 5 min.\u00a0 Add millet or rice cook 5 min. Flavor with miso to taste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 c leftover millet or rice<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2\/3 c. water<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1\/4 turnip or radish or daikon<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1\/2 cup greens<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">miso to taste or sesame salt to garnish<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. Recipe from <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Cookbook: The Changing Seasons  Aveline Kushi\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Changing-Seasons-Macrobiotic-Cookbook-Cooking\/dp\/1583331646\/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&amp;qid=1549200966&amp;sr=8-1\">The Changing Seasons Macrobiotic Cookbook by Aveline Kushi and Wendy Esko<\/a>&#8211; This is a bean dish that can be altered with any bean you have on hand.\u00a0 A hearty black bean could be nice.\u00a0 Adding your choices of\u00a0 veggies, if another green suits you add it.\u00a0 You can also have a green on the side like a dandelion green or a hearty collard green.\u00a0 \u00a0Basic recipe for Aduki beans is to add a piece of kombu and cover just above the beans.\u00a0 Let it boil then bring down to low and simmer till cooked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Rice and Azuki Bean Stew- <\/strong>Place rice and beans in pot add water and daikon. Bring to boil. Cover. Reduce medium-low. Simmer 35-40 min. Add kale and sea salt or tamari to taste. Simmer 4-5min. Best if green is left bright.
