{"id":1236,"date":"2014-06-08T09:00:25","date_gmt":"2014-06-08T13:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/?p=1236"},"modified":"2014-06-08T08:22:19","modified_gmt":"2014-06-08T12:22:19","slug":"into-great-silence-and-our-own","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/?p=1236","title":{"rendered":"Into Great Silence: And our Own"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Into-Great-Silence.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1239\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Into-Great-Silence-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This week I had the opportunity to see a film for the second time with fresh eyes.\u00a0 The film that I saw was called Into Great Silence by Pilip Groning (two dots over the O).\u00a0\u00a0 You can find a\u00a0trailer for the film here https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sgNj2Sf_mgo.<\/p>\n<p>The film is a documentary that takes you into Grande Chartreuse one of the most ascetic monastaries.\u00a0 Ascetic in case you are new to such a word as I am means &#8220;A person who renounces material comforts and leads a life of austere self-discipline, especially as an act of religious devotion.&#8221; I like this definition provided by the free online dictionary (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/ascetic\">www.thefreedictionary.com\/<\/a><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/ascetic\">ascetic<\/a><\/strong>) as a\u00a0aposed to websters definition that speaks in much harsher terms of deprivation because\u00a0the latter reflects the film.<\/p>\n<p>The director of the film asked to do a documentary fo the monks and was invited 13 years after his inital request.\u00a0 He lived with them for a year.<\/p>\n<p>I share this films principals for what I derived from the film as it applies to my own life and perhaps to yours.\u00a0 What I witnessed was a supreme devotion to &#8220;GOD&#8221; exercised by men who found themselves to be very content and happy with their lives.\u00a0 Their lifestyle is simple and their purpose clear; to devote themselves in prayer to &#8220;GOD&#8221; for the forfillment of their lives.<\/p>\n<p>I am not &#8220;religious&#8221; by nature but I am spiritual.\u00a0\u00a0 I believe that &#8220;GOD&#8221; dwells within each one of us.
