{"id":1018,"date":"2014-02-02T09:00:31","date_gmt":"2014-02-02T14:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/?p=1018"},"modified":"2014-02-01T16:51:38","modified_gmt":"2014-02-01T21:51:38","slug":"your-homea-space-for-wellness-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/?p=1018","title":{"rendered":"Your Home:A Space for Wellness, Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Home-for-Wellness-Part-16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1137\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/safaraf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Home-for-Wellness-Part-16-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>With the cold winter season upon us we find ourselves retreating to the indoors.\u00a0 We curl up in our comfy leg warmers, socks and pajama wear as soon as we get home and close the door behind us.\u00a0 Many times this creates a slowing down effect on our bodies and minds as we tend to want to be less active.<\/p>\n<p>The need to find ways to allow ourselves to continue to be in movement with our bodies while allowing equal time to relax\u00a0and\u00a0accept these seasonal effects on our energy is important. Bodies that stay limber and activated help bring healing throughout the body by allowing good blood flow.<\/p>\n<p>We need this blood flow to be optimal as nutrients get distributed through the blood to our organs and help heal.\u00a0 Toxins that are within our system tend to be flushed out through our blood. Physical movement of our bodies through exercise ensures this process.\u00a0 When we exercise\u00a0we secrete wastes through our glands and these deposits get flushed through our blood stream.<\/p>\n<p>When the cold sets in; it is natural for us to find ourselves challenged with how to keep active.\u00a0 Sometimes the gym is not within reach.\u00a0 We are detered\u00a0either physically through the acts of the wintery weather and or by our dread of having to leave our cozy homes to get there.<\/p>\n<p>So while we are in our homes what kind of exercises can we perform to keep movement flowing through our bodies?<\/p>\n<p>Lets look at utilizing 4\u00a0spaces typically found in a home:<\/p>\n<p>1.Stairs-\u00a0 If you have one or more staircases in your house, these can be used for multiple purposes.\u00a0 Stairs can be used as &#8220;stairmasters&#8221;, taking each step up and down one by one then two by two.\u00a0 You can challenge your thighs and buttocks to a workout by bending into the step.\u00a0 Taking two steps down and one step up is said to also help keep your energy flow as part of a morning routine.<\/p>\n<p>2. Wall space- Walls in your house can be used as great surface space.\u00a0 Two exercises that are easy to facilitate are wall presses and leg stretches.\u00a0 Wall presses can be done with your arms as push-ups done on the floor.\u00a0 Spreading your hands on the wall and extending your legs behind you.\u00a0 The wall press can also be done with your back up against the wall and sliding down until you come to a &#8220;chair&#8221; position with your body.\u00a0 Leg stretches are a good way to relax your body from a day on your feet.\u00a0\u00a0Sit \u00a0your buttocks up against the wall and raise your legs up.\u00a0 Stay in this position as long as your like.<\/p>\n<p>3. Chairs\/Benches- Chairs and benches are a easy way to get your back muscles of your arms a good workout.\u00a0 You can also do pushups on them by placing the chair against the wall so it stays firm.\u00a0 Sitting in a chair and performing weight training is a comfortable and effective workout. Chair exercises can be employed for a full workout with the use of DVD.\u00a0\u00a0I recently tried\u00a0&#8220;Chair Aerobics for Everyone&#8221;\u00a0 a set of DVDs\u00a0that includes\u00a0fun workouts like &#8220;Chair Salsa.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>4.
